How do I book a date for my portraits?
I book on a first come first serve basis, a 20% non-refundable deposit is required upon booking with thee remainder due on the day of the sitting. Please note: contact and deposit aren’t received within five days of booking the session, client gives up their date. Email janet@janetscottphotography to book your session.
Do you travel?
Absolutely! However, if sessions are outside a twenty mile radius of the St. Cloud area, the base government recommended mileage charges will incur for any miles beyond the allowed 20 miles.
How can I prepare for an in-home session?
Since I am a nature light photographer it would be best to clear away any pieces of furniture from the biggest window or glass door in hour house. If you’re comfortable, I can also shoot throughout your home…bedroom, nursery, livingroom, diningroom, etc. This will help to make the portraits more customized to your family. If weather permits we will go outdoors for some shots also.
Have older babies and children fed and well rested (right away in the morning or right after a nap is normally the best time to schedule your session). Newborns, have your heat turned upi to about 80 degrees and try to keep them awake prior to the shoot, that way we cna get some photos of them awake and sleeping. We can take as many breaks as baby needs for feedings or diaper changes.
What should my family and I wear for our portraits?
In general, simple is best. It is recommended to avoid busy patterns, logos, etc on clothing. Denim or kahaki look nice with a plain top. However, I abslutely love bright colors and pattens when it comes to babies and children. It really boils down to what you’d like to see hanging on your wall.
When more than on person will be photographed together, try to coordinate outfits using colors that go well together. It’s also higly recommended that clothing with busy prints be avoided when doing group photos.
Bare skin looks wonderful on newborns and babies, or even just a diaper, but clothing can always be done. If you would like pictures without clothing, please refrain from dressing your baby in tight clothes (including socks) before your session, as they leave marks on the skin. Parents please wear a solid black shirt for newborn sessions so you may be used as a prop.
If you are unsure what to wear, please let me know and I can try to help you out together some ideas. Feel free to bring a variety of choices to your session and I can help you narrow it down and/or give you recommendations.
What is the best age to photograph my newborn?
The ideal age to photograph a newborn is between 5-7 days old. They are still small enough to bend into cute poses and generally newborn acne hasn’t flared up yet. Plus they tend to sleep the most at that age. You can book as far in advance as you like, we will work together around your due date to make sure we get the shoot in that time frame.
Will I receive prints with my session? How much do you charge for prints?
Your session does not come with prints. However, each session will come with a disk containing photos and a release for you to print them at the business of your choice. If you desire to have prints made from the photoshoot (such as enlargements, gallery wraps, mounted photos etc.) I can give you a separate quote.
When will I receive my disk of photos?
After your session, I allow two weeks to edit the photos. From there, I’ll email you that you can choose your specified amount of photos to be burned to disk. All out, the process typically takes about three weeks from session date to dropping the disk in the mail.
Do you shoot digital or film? What programs do you use to edit your photos?
I shoot with all professional Nikkon digital equiptment. I also bring all my back up equipment just in case something were to go wrong.
I edit with a combination of Lightroom 3.3 and Photoshop CS5.
